The visual identity documented here is the result of the final work of Design atelier 2, taught by teachers Liza Ramalho and Pedro Cruz at University of Coimbra, Master in Design and Multimedia.
It is a critical analysis of the Coimbra prison as a material element of extreme importance because of its architecture, but also as an immaterial of great relationship with society.
This is a personal critical perspective of what should be the visual identity of an institution with such an important role in society. By detecting the biases inherent in this type of establishment I could understand its essence and its role in society. My vision was built during my reading of Surveiller et punir e de L. Stoobant, Annales de la Société d’histoire de Gand by Michel Foucault.
