Day of Portugal, Camões, and the Portuguese Communities, is Portugal's National Day celebrated annually on 10 June. The Portuguese Embassy in Prague in collaboration with Camões Institute invited the musician and musicologist Júlio Pereira to celebrate Dia de Portugal. And I was very fortunate to create the program for such special occasion.
I felt extremely flattered but above all scared. I couldn't forgive myself if something would happened to be just OK. After all it is my homeland, where I learnt how to create and how to explore.
I found inspiration in poetry of Camões; red carnation, symbol of Portuguese revolution; Cavaquinho* which has been around the globe, as metaphor for Portuguese Communities; and also paper chip. Paper chip? Yes. I didn’t want to forget technology and research which has been one of our qualities. The program needed to be in tree languages (portuguese, czech and english) and in top of that I had the great Júlio Pereira to honor.
*The cavaquinho is a small string instrument of the European guitar family with four wire or gut strings. To know more about cavaquinho go to cavaquinhos.pt, a digital museum founded by Júlio Pereira. And visit http://www.juliopereira.pt/en/BIOGRAPHY/Biography.htm to know more about him.

Certainties and doubts traces the life and work of Czech-American architect Jasan Burin (1929). Following the story of his colorful life, the book focus on his architectural work. This is interpreted within the context of 20th century architecture and represented by a selection of 53 projects. The book contains more than 400 illustrations from Jasan Burin´s personal archives: apart from photographs and plans of his architectures also witty drawings which reveal another love of Burin´s life: automobiles, locomotives and all kinds of machines.
To create a bilingual book about such charismatic person with so adventurous life as Jasan it’s a challenge. The Material? The author’s text and a collection of hundreds of unique sketches, drawings, renders, photographs and notes, letters, newspapers. So when UNIT ARCHITEKTI invited me to be the lead designer for this project I couldn't be more happy.
The book is divided in two main chapters: The interview “I love architecture as a medium of human existence” and a selection of Jasan’s works. Each chapter is color coded, visible in each cover page and through a lateral annotation. This allows the reader to identify the book composition at the first sight without opening it.
One of the biggest challenges I had was how to make a cover that screams Jasan Name without being noisy. Jasan Burin is an important architect but here in czech many people don't know who he is. Therefore I wanted to share his life imprint with everyone. Something that you could feel without your eyes, something that even Jasan, with is almost blind eyes, could feel and recognize.
I loved every single moment from this interesting path throughout all Jasan's hand drawings, family portraits, illustrations and even cartoons while I would listen countless stories by himself.

Âu Cơ is a vietnamese restaurant that has been serving tradition with a twist of innovation in Czech Republic.
One could argue that a vietnamese restaurant requires nothing more than a brush script to be recognized as Asian cuisine. Which leads us to the problem: people don’t recognized Âu Cơ they simply know it’s Asian Food. To make it worst multiple well established Chinese restaurants are located in the surrounding area. Therefore the logo needed to stand out from the Czech restaurants landscape without being perceived as “another” Asian Food.
Âu Cơ means mountain and gives name to a legend, often known as the origin of Vietnamese Civilization. According to it, a fairy, Âu Cơ, from the mountains was surprised by a monster’s attack. But right before it Lạc Long Quân, a powerful dragon from the sea, saved Âu Cơ. It was the start of a magic love. Âu Cơ moved to the sea and shortly they were blessed with the birth of 100 children. But time has passed and eventually the fairy’s homesick got unbearable. Followed by the couple’s split. Half of the childreen stayed in the sea and the other half moved to the mountains.
With the all this in mind my research kept me focused on vietnamese culture: the texture of rice landscapes, the unique tone of vietnamese bamboo and what it stands for, the vibrant imagery of Dong Ho paintings. A country with influences from west to east, from north to south, product of a troubled history but that shows today to be one of the most interesting and unique cultures. Mr. Vinh the manager of the restaurant, with his straightforward attitude, knows it and ever day he tries to honor his culture yet while taking new risks, winning new opportunities.
The restaurant reflects exactly this. A clean place without ornaments. Where the pale green Vietnamese Bamboo welcomes you at the entrance and the Dong Ho paintings are placed carefully in the royal yellow alike bright walls. The color palette was found by the match of this physical place and with Vietnamese natural and cultural landscape.
No less then often the art and culture are deeply linked with the raw materials, nature. In the case of Dong Ho painting it tell us a little bit about the past with its satiric tales and with its technique by using the main vietnamese raw materials to compound the all the colours.
Dazzled already I strived for a strategy to communicate: Âu Cơ as the vietnamese restaurant: physical localization; reference to the country ambience and its symbols

While working on some ideas for a possible collaboration with Zoot.cz I felt in love with the concept of being a Zooter (more than a customer) part of Zoot (more than a Store, more than the sum of all Zooters). Since this Store aims to be on the verge of digital I though I could communicate those ideas by using the tv as visual metaphor.
So as I was thinking about this idea of Zoot as a meeting point for Zooters (to shop, talk or even listening music) I was sketching it digitally using processing.org
Keep in mind that this is not the end result it's just the outcome of ideation process.Graphic Design, Programming2013

In this project the generative procedures are studied as a form to instigate the creative process in the application of the practical case: organic forms. The scope of this study the forms are developed by computational means, using Processing.org as a creative tool. The computer is seen not only as technology, but also as a laboratory where creativity is stimulated to explore an infinite range of experiments in the form of a series of artworks. The goal is to document the creative process by developing artifacts inspired by nature, yet deliberately different from those found in nature and, therefore, novel. Throughout history, organic ornaments were created alluding to forms broadly found in flora.
The search for perfect organic forms is not new in graphic design. The wish of creating organic ornaments have resisted trough times and technologies. The present project is iterative and divided by phases. I deconstruct plants into details of shape, scale and color, continuing until the desired level of visual diversity is obtained. From this point onwards I start to sketch using processing.org, combining the previous details (NOT as assets to draw but only as ideas) trough programming to generate problems and ideas, to create organic forms that illustrate a myriad of themes, to explore formal aspects related with the inspirational images, etc.
Programming turned out to be an excellent way to accomplish that, allowing me to create generative studies that are not only results but also the seed for subsequent ones, influencing the course of this open-ended experience. Trough it, I show how computer can be a creative partner by exemplifying how programming may be applied to the generation of new forms with organic value.

The visual identity documented here is the result of the final work of Design atelier 2, taught by teachers Liza Ramalho and Pedro Cruz at University of Coimbra, Master in Design and Multimedia.
It is a critical analysis of the Coimbra prison as a material element of extreme importance because of its architecture, but also as an immaterial of great relationship with society.
This is a personal critical perspective of what should be the visual identity of an institution with such an important role in society. By detecting the biases inherent in this type of establishment I could understand its essence and its role in society. My vision was built during my reading of Surveiller et punir e de L. Stoobant, Annales de la Société d’histoire de Gand by Michel Foucault.Branding, Graphic Design2012
